Top Transport Infrastructure Projects NSW

The Australian Government is investing $110 billion in transport infrastructure projects across Australia over a ten-year period beginning in 2021-22.

Network expansions, new metro lines, more trains, public transport systems linking suburbs, rail stations, a new international airport and more, will relieve pressure on existing infrastructure and unlock the economic capacity by easing congestion and reducing travel times.

Here are some of the most significant infrastructure projects in NSW under construction and their progress to date.

1. Western Sydney Airport 

Located at Badgerys Creek in Western Sydney, the Nancy Bird Walton International Airport construction is underway, expected to become one of the major transport infrastructures in Australia.

The Australian Government is investing up to $5.25 billion to deliver the airport, with the capacity to manage nearly 10 million passengers annually when open to the public in 2026. 

According to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the government’s investment in the development of the airport and its supporting transport links is “transforming this powerhouse region, attracting investment and supporting jobs for generations to come”.

“Tens of thousands of more jobs will be created when the airport is up and running in 2026, and millions of travellers are arriving into Sydney’s newest airport every year”, Morrison said.

New images released by the airport show over 20 million cubic metres of earth removed to make way for the construction of the airport’s runway, taxiways and terminal, all due to begin construction in the coming months.

To reduce its environmental impact, the airport will use recycled materials from other Sydney projects, such as crushed sandstone.

2. Sydney Metro 

Sydney Metro is one of Australia’s biggest transport infrastructure projects. It is a fully-automated metro rail system, which will include 46 fully accessible stations and more than 113km of world-class metro rail for Sydney.

Sydney Metro Northwest ($7.3 billion)

The First Stage of Sydney Metro Northwest, which opened in May 2019, offers high-frequency turn-up-and-go services between Rouse Hill and Chatswood. 

Sydney Metro City & Southwest ($12.5 billion)

The Second Stage, which extends the metro under Sydney Harbour and through the CBD to Bankstown, is expected to open in 2024. There are two components of Sydney Metro City & Southwest: Chatswood to Sydenham, and Sydenham to Bankstown upgrade.

Sydney Metro West

Expected to complete in 2030, this line links Greater Parramatta and Sydney City and communities along the way, servicing the key precincts of Sydney Olympic Park, The Bays, Parramatta, Westmead and the Sydney CBD.

Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport ($11 billion)

Formerly known as Sydney Metro Greater West, the Western Sydney Airport Line project will see a new metro rail line run from St Marys to the Western Sydney Airport.

Sydney Metro, together with signalling and infrastructure upgrades across the existing Sydney rail network, will increase the capacity of train services entering the Sydney CBD –from approximately 120 an hour today to up to 200 services beyond 2024. That’s an increase of up to 60 per cent capacity across the network to meet demand. 

3. Parramatta Light Rail 

Expected to open in 2023, the  $2.4 billion Parramatta Light Rail between Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia, will include 16 accessible stations and a 12 kilometre two-way track. 

This major rail line is expected to bring major benefits to businesses, local residents, commuters and visitors, improve safety, reduce congestion and support the development of Parramatta as Sydney’s second CBD.

Services every 7.5 minutes during peak periods, 7 days a week, with each vehicle able to carry up to 300 people (equivalent to around 6 standard buses). 

As part of the Parramatta Light Rail program, the NSW Government will also deliver a five-kilometre walking and bike riding path, urban design, new bridges and road network upgrades.

WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT AND HOLD?

Under the Act Personal Information is defined as information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual that is reasonably identifiable, in whatever form and regardless of whether it is true or not (Personal Information). The Act also defines a subset of Personal Information as sensitive information (for example health records, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, criminal records).

The types of Personal Information we collect and hold will depend on the circumstances of collection and on the type of service we are providing. For example, when we are engaged to sell a property, we may collect and hold Personal Information from both the seller and potential buyers such as name, address, email address, telephone numbers, employment details and details about their business.

We may also collect and hold certain sensitive information that is reasonably necessary for the provision of our services, including health and criminal records. If you provide us with any sensitive information, you consent to us collecting that information and handling it in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

HOW WE COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION

We may collect Personal Information about you directly when you deal with us over the telephone, send us correspondence (whether by letter, fax or email), have contact with us in person, visit our websites or complete hard copy or online forms.

There are also circumstances where we may collect Personal Information about you from someone else. For example, from:
• Market research companies contracted by us to obtain information so that we may improve and market our services;

WHY WE COLLECT, HOLD AND USE PERSONAL INFORMATION

We generally collect, hold and use your Personal Information for the purposes for which it is provided to us (which will usually be obvious at the time of collection), related purposes or as permitted or required by law. Such purposes may include:
• Acting as agent for vendors or purchasers in relation to the sale of a property;
• Acting as agent for owners or tenants in relation to the leasing and or valuation of a property;

We generally use information automatically collected by cookies and other tracking technology to identify you as a valid user, ensure that no one else can sign on simultaneously with your account from another computer and help us serve you better based on your registration preferences. DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We may disclose your Personal Information to third parties as may be necessary for any of the purposes stated in the above section. Such third parties generally include:

DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION OVERSEAS

Some of the third parties listed above to whom we may disclose your Personal Information are located overseas. For example:
Our information technology and business process service providers that are located in countries including (but not limited to) the Indonesia, India and Philippines; and Our overseas clients that are located in the same countries as the companies within the St Trinity Property Group.
Our contracts with these parties generally include an obligation for them to comply with Australian privacy law and this Privacy Policy.
However you acknowledge that, by agreeing to the disclosure of your Personal Information to these entities outside of Australia, we will no longer be required to take reasonable steps to ensure the overseas recipient’s compliance with the Australian privacy law in relation to your Personal Information and we will not be liable to you for any breach of the Australian privacy law by these overseas recipients. On this basis, you consent to such disclosure.

ACCESS, UPDATE AND CORRECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We take reasonable steps to ensure that the Personal Information we hold about you is accurate, complete and up-to-date. However, we also rely on you to advise us of any changes to your Personal Information. If you are able to access your Personal Information by logging on to an account you have with us, it is your responsibility to ensure your information is accurate, complete, relevant and up-to-date.
On request we will provide you with access to the Personal Information we hold about you, including for the purpose of correcting or updating that information, unless otherwise required or permitted by law.
There is no charge for making the request or giving the access to your Personal Information. We will deal with your request within a reasonable period after the request is made.
If we refuse to provide you with access we will provide you with a written notice that, at a minimum, outlines reasons for the refusal and the complaints mechanisms available to you.

SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We take reasonable steps to protect any Personal Information that we hold from misuse, interference and loss and from unauthorised access, alteration and disclosure.
